Our History

St. Francis Hospital for Animals has been a friend and neighbor to the people of Oakdale for over forty years. The hospital first opened its doors in 1972 under the direction of Dr. Thomas Mowdy, a resident of the community. Since that time and throughout the years, St. Francis Hospital for Animals earned a strong reputation for providing pet owners in Oakdale and the surrounding communties with compassionate, high quality veterinary services.

Over the years, Dr. Mowdy developed significant allergies to the animals he loved and treated so passionately. So in 1989, he sold St. Francis, passing the reins to Dr. Christine Schmeiser (who had worked for Dr. Mowdy as a teenager) and her husband, Dr. Dick Indrieri. Under their care, the veterinary practice grew and St. Francis Hospital for Animals was completely renovated. On their watch, a state of the art surgical suite was integrated into the practice, as well as digital radiography and a dental treatment area.

“In the spring of 2014 the practice was again sold to Dr. Keith Parendo, fulfilling his life-long dream of compassionately caring for animals in a family owned setting. He is honored to follow in the footsteps of such well respected veterinarians and is dedicated to maintaining the standards set by his predecessors. ”

Today St. Francis Hospital for Animals is a modern, warm and welcoming, full-service veterinary hospital that is proud to offer a wide range of comprehensive veterinary health care services, pet care information, and counseling to our friends and neighbors.
